Imperva Positioned in the Leaders Quadrant
of the Magic Quadrant for Web Application Firewalls

Evaluation Based on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., June 19, 2014 – Imperva Inc. (NYSE:  IMPV), pioneering the third pillar of enterprise security with a new layer of protection designed specifically for physical and virtual data centers, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for Web Application Firewalls.”[i]

“Given today’s threat landscape, websites need protection,” said Shlomo Kramer, CEO of Imperva. “Websites are the door into an organization’s most valuable assets, and criminals know that. It’s great to see Gartner bringing visibility to the importance of web application firewalls, and we feel honored to be positioned as the only Leader in this important market.”

On February 28, 2014, Gartner published a report titled, “Web Application Firewalls are Worth the Investment for Enterprises.”[ii]  In this report Gartner points out that, “Firewalls and intrusion prevention systems don’t provide sufficient protections for most public-facing websites or internal business-critical and custom Web applications.” The report goes on to state that, “Web application firewalls (WAFs) are different from next-generation firewalls (NGFWs) and intrusion prevention systems (IPSs). WAFs protect, at a granular level, the enterprise’s custom Web applications against Web attacks.”

“As the threat landscape has evolved, different types of security have evolved to protect enterprises from attack,” said Mark Kraynak, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing of Imperva. “Web application firewalls and next generation firewalls are two different technologies focused on solving two different problems. We’re happy to see Gartner bring clarity to the difference and we encourage people to view both reports from our website.”
