Imperva Integrates SecureSphere with Microsoft Forefront "Stirling"

Joins Microsoft Forefront "Stirling" Ecosystem

Redwood Shores, Calif., April 16, 2009 – Imperva®, the Data Security leader, today announced that it will integrate the Imperva SecureSphere Data Security Suite with Microsoft Forefront code name “Stirling.” This interoperability will allow the exchange of information between SecureSphere, Forefront “Stirling,” and other Forefront-connected security devices to investigate threats. Imperva will demonstrate this integration during the RSA Conference next week at booth 417.

Currently in public beta, Forefront code name “Stirling” is an integrated security suite that delivers comprehensive protection across endpoint, application servers and edge solutions with a central management console for easy administration and enterprise-wide multi product visibility.

Forefront “Stirling” enables software, hardware, and services vendors to share and use security event information across the “Stirling” environment and the broader partner ecosystem. Through the sharing of security event information, partners can enhance the effectiveness of their security technologies and better protect customer IT environments.

SecureSphere – Microsoft Forefront “Stirling” Benefits

SecureSphere’s ability to monitor, understand, block, and audit web application and database transactions will enable it to contribute security event information within the Forefront environment. For example, when SecureSphere detects a malicious request coming from a client infected by a Web worm, it will issue an assessment so that ForeFront can launch a virus scan and removal process on that client. The result is that the problem is located and resolved jointly and quickly by the security ecosystem.

Since SecureSphere automatically profiles an application’s structure and learns how users interact with it, deviations from this profile are categorized as anomalies and generate security alerts, while attacks and unauthorized operations are blocked. Through the Forefront integration, when SecureSphere detects suspicious data access it will protect the data and issue an assessment to Forefront. In response, Forefront “Stirling” will correlate several assessments from multiple devices and will deduce that the user is compromised. Detecting a compromised user is very difficult when the real user is not aware of it, but the SecureSphere-Forefront integration will create the synergy between multiple security products to enable fast discovery of such conditions.

“Imperva is pleased to interoperate with Forefront “Stirling”, which promises to create some powerful new ways for organizations to protect their applications, data, and networks,” said Rohit Gupta, vice president of business development for Imperva. “SecureSphere’s unique ability to monitor, understand, block, and audit web application and database transactions will be even more powerful with ”Stirling”, and enable organizations to detect and correlate threats that today are invisible.”

“Microsoft is excited to work with Imperva to give our joint customers more comprehensive and responsive security across the enterprise,” said John Chirapurath, director in the identity and security business group at Microsoft. “Microsoft is committed to collaborating with top industry vendors and providing solutions that help organizations more effectively achieve their business goals. We call this ‘business-ready security’.”
